MILDLY SMOKED American Oak chips will allow you to imitate storing your wine or whiskey in an Oak barrel without the expense and produce a smoky finish like a Scottish or Irish Peated and Smoked single malt.
Regular Medium Toast American Oak chips will impart strong flavours of Vanilla andcaramel. MILDLY SMOKED will also have these flavours but with the added smokiness you associate with some famous Scottish and Irish single malts.
These traditional oak chips are made the old fashioned way by toasting on an open fire. This imparts mild smokiness into the whiskey along with the other flavours associated with a good quality oak as mentioned above.
Our chips are larger and thicker compared to oak flakes. A larger: thicker chip will provide some level of capillary action from the wood. This will add more complexity and will produce a smoother finished wine or spirit. Many chips sold are more like flakes of oak. This larger surface area of a flake will quickly impart colour and wood flavour to your wine or whiskey, but it will also add large amounts of tannins which can bitter your finished product.
